Resize images by pixels or percentage

Set an exact width and height, such as 1080 × 1080 for a square social post, or scale the whole image by a percentage. Keep the original proportions or choose how the image should fit a new shape.

How to use the image resizer

  1. 1

Select or drop a JPG, PNG or WebP image.

  2. 2

Enter a width and height in pixels, or switch to percentage scaling.

  3. 3

If you turn off “Keep aspect ratio”, choose whether to crop, pad or stretch.

  4. 4

Select “Resize image”, check the new dimensions, and download.

Keeping the aspect ratio

The aspect ratio is the relationship between width and height. With “Keep aspect ratio” on, changing one dimension updates the other automatically, so the image is never distorted.

Turn it off to enter both dimensions yourself. When the new shape differs from the original, choose “Crop to fill” to trim the edges, “Fit with padding” to add bars, or “Stretch” to distort the image to the exact size.

Making images larger

You can enlarge an image, but resizing cannot add detail that was never captured. Enlarged images look softer, especially above 200%.

Transparency and photo orientation

PNG and WebP output keep transparent areas. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.

Photos from phones often store their rotation as metadata. The resizer applies that rotation, so the output is the right way up and its dimensions match what you see.

Frequently asked questions

What is the largest size I can resize to?

Each side can be up to 16,384 pixels, and the whole image up to 40 megapixels. This keeps the browser from running out of memory.

How do I resize to 1080 × 1080 without distortion?

Turn off “Keep aspect ratio”, enter 1080 for both width and height, and choose “Crop to fill” (trims the edges) or “Fit with padding” (adds bars). “Stretch” would distort a non-square image.

Will resizing reduce the file size?

Making an image smaller in pixels almost always makes the file smaller. If you need a specific file size, use the “compress to a target size” tool.

Which output formats are available?

You can keep the original format or choose JPG, PNG or WebP. Choose PNG or WebP to preserve transparency.
